The thesis reviews the state of the art and the current scientific literature on the use of stainless steels in asepctic environment and for antimicrobial applications. Moreover, the thesis investigates in more detail the use of copper as an antimicrobial alloy element in stainless steel and the role of niobium as a further alloy element that can facilitate the antimicrobial effect of copper. |
