Abstract
In modern society, project management has emerged as an essential component of any serious business development initiative. It has also become a key to success in a global economic environment where companies are constantly seeking a competitive advantage over their competitors. However, old-fashioned companies do not have the capacity to select and manage countless projects with managerial and strategic benefits and therefore turn to external professions experienced on these fronts, i.e. consultancy firms. The aim of this study is to understand how the discipline of project management is applied in consultancy firms and to study the main advantages and disadvantages of the approach adopted.
To this end, a real technological project carried out by Accenture and the methodology used for it are analysed, with references to the Waterfall and Agile models typical of project management theory
