Abstract
Advancements in the products of the automotive industry resulted in ever more complex designs, which rooted from the increasing demands from customers as well as regulations. Complex designs though, are a challenge to manage as with the traditional mode of product development, they are expensive and require a wide array of processes to perform. To answer for such challenges, Model Based Definition is seen to be able to create data structures as well as streamlining the product development process through setting a standardized data library that encompasses many essential data across users with greater ease than the traditional design methods through drawings and 2D models.
By linking MBD’s potentials with concepts within product life cycle management, it was found that MBD provides a wide-array of possibilities to improve design quality, cost effectiveness, as well as effectivity in the automotive industry
