Abstract
Natural or man-made disasters can be lethal for environment, infrastructures and even human life. The proposal of this research is to analyse the repetitive flood events in Cervo Valley, an alpine Area in the North-west of Italy, in order to determine a methodology able to reduce economic and social damages. Floods events have always existed and their negative consequences for the society are related to the interference between human activity and natural river flow. In the recent past, the strategy for limitation of flood associated damages was based on the protection of areas of interest by means of structural measures that physically prevented water from flowing into them.
Climate changes of the last decades and latest studies on this subject highlighted the partial ineffectiveness of this strategy
