Abstract: |
More and more, in today’s world there is the request to be able to monitor the environment and the objects that surround us. Just think of the apps that have been recently developed to be able to monitor the rooms of your home remotely or the setting that notifies us when an app on a device is consuming too much, so you can turn it off and save energy. The industrial world is not exempt from this spontaneous technological process, indeed industries are increasingly ”technologizing”. For this reason, we have chosen to implement a complete data collection system, which is able to recover data and measurements from a device, store them in a database and finally export them to make them accessible also in the cloud. This would allow the user to have a unique system that goes from the low level of the device to the high level of the cloud. Between the low level and the high level there is a middle layer in which data could be stored, managed and modified, along with device configuration and settings. Three main components are involved in this project: • An IO-Link board, model STEVAL-IDP005V1; • A master board, model STEVAL-IDP004V1; • A common Linux PC. The purpose of the work is to collect data from the IO-Link board and to import them in EdgeX Foundry platform, that is running on the Linux PC. Communication between IO-Link board and the PC is possible thanks to the master board, that supports both IO-Link protocol, used to send command to and retrieve data from the IO-Link board, and serial protocol, used to communicate with the PC. In next chapters we will analyze in details all the components involved in the system, in order to give the reader an overview on how the system is composed and how does it work. Finally, system implementation and results reached are analyzed. |
