Abstract:

The purpose of this work is to create a representative model of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) capable to estimate the instantaneous energy consumption. The proposed model follows a direct kinematic approach, i.e. having as input a speed profile is able to calculate for each instant the corresponding angular speeds and loads of the electric motor. From the mechanical power set to the electrical machine passes to the electrical power needed to follow the cycle and finally is obtained the trend of the battery charge . The model has been built using MATLAB and Simulink and the components have been sized using information available in the literature for L7 category vehicles. The model was finally validated using as input the velocity profile gathered during the driving mission of a quadricycle and the related trend of the state of charge of the battery.
