THE NEW ENERGY AND TRANSPORT MARKET: HOW BATTERIES, A.I. AND RENEWABLES ARE CHANGING THE CAR MARKET LANDSCAPE.

Rel. Paolo Federico Ferrero. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea specialistica in Automotive Engineering, 2019

Abstract:

The developments in artificial intelligence, the exponentially decreasing costs of lithium batteries and the diffusion of sharing models are about to change the car market landscape. In 2019 an autonomous electric vehicle sharing service (Robotaxi), made of a fleet of Tesla Model 3, would have an operating cost lower than 10 € per 100 km, compared to a median 35 € per 100 km for an owned Combustion Engine Car in USA. Thus a Robotaxi service would already be 3.5 times cheaper to operate compared to an owned vehicle in USA. This thesis wants to analyze the actual leaders in electric vehicles, autonomous driving and batteries, as these technologies have the potential to displace the car ownership model. The customer perception and desires about electric cars and buses are also analyzed.
