Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to study and redesign an aeronautical gearbox housing, using the new design opportunity given by the Additive Manufacturing (AM): a process by which digital 3D design data is used to build up a component in layers by depositing material. Additive manufacturing makes possible to create free-form objects not bounded with the constraints of the traditional manufacturing processes (such as casting, forming, molding and machining,etc.).
