The thesis aims to analyze the impacts of the PSD2 on the payment industry and the possible scenarios that banks will face, trying to safeguard the leadership that banks currently have for payment services. In particular, it will be explained the opportunities that PSD2 offers banks to remain competitive by focusing on “non core” activities, since the core activities no longer guarantee the margins of the past. Finally, a corporate case will be presented for a leading bank that will show the quantitative impacts resulting from the implementation of the AISP models contemplated in the new regulatory framework.
