Abstract: |
One of the most important and influential developments of the last decade has been the introduction of smartphones, which have become very important in our day-to-day activities. This has led users to spending more and more time with their mobile devices, which in turn has led to a lot of interest in create mobile applications to expand user engagement and reach. Companies are becoming increasingly interested in ways into which to tap into this ever expanding market. However, developing and maintaining mobile applications can be difficult and expensive for multiple reasons ranging from the required personnel to experience in the various native frameworks and tools provided by mobile operating systems. For these reasons, cross-platform mobile application development is becoming increasingly appealing, especially for companies and organizations that do not belong in the information technology sector or do not have the resources necessary for such an undertaking. Cross-platform mobile application development can require less time, resources and personnel, while also making maintenance much easier. The scope of this thesis, is to study the available alternatives, select the most suitable one and then create a cross-platform solution through it. To ensure this project would yield an application that could be used in real-world settings, we will be taking inspiration from a web-based solution on which to base our mobile application. As a result, we should be able to determine the viability of these technologies when developing medium to large applications and produce a fully functional application. |
