Abstract:

Venezuela is currently undergoing a generalized crisis, where poverty is considered one of its most serious problems. The figures indicate that in recent years, there has been a considerable increase in the number of families suffering from it. This is reflected primarily in the type of dwellings they inhabit, either because of the conditions or the state of the houses, the improvisation when building them or simply by its non-existence.

Motivated mainly by this problem, arises the idea of proposing a housing solution in a very affected area: the city of Quibor, Venezuela. Therefore, it is considered to create a set of social housing, to solve the precarious conditions in which many inhabitants live, trying to locate them in areas where there are possibilities of work for them and providing them with housing that meets the minimum conditions all citizens have the right to enjoy.

To achieve this goal, a study is carried out first on the characteristics of the city: it was determined that one of its main economic activities is the artisanal, and its main source of income is the artisanal market located in "La Ceiba Sur". An urban analysis of this sector was performed and the main needs were identified, obtaining as a relevant result of the study the determination of a significant deficit in the supply of housing, adequate spaces in the local market, public spaces and buildings of social and cultural interest. To complement the study, social housing cases in Venezuela were analyzed and buildings facing similar climates (tropical), as well as colonial architecture, predominant in the area.

Based on this study, it is proposed a master plan in the sector "La Ceiba Sur" which seeks to solve these needs: a pedestrian axis that integrates the market area with the rest of the sector and creates a network of public spaces with the existing ones, accompanying this axis are located market stalls and workshops that generate new employment opportunities, a residential set of social housing, a sports park, and a cultural center. The final result reflects the developed social housing project and the design strategies used to accomplish it.
