Assessment of the Effectiveness of Seismic Retrofitting Interventions in Historic Masonry Churches: A Territorial-Scale Analysis

This thesis presents a territorial-scale analysis of the effectiveness of seismic retrofitting interventions in a group of churches in the Emilia Romagna region. Specifically, it compares the condition of the churches before the October 1996 earthquake and after the post-earthquake interventions, analyzing under an LV1 assessment the impact that these interventions had on the vulnerability index and safety index of each church. In addition, an analysis is carried out on the most significant damage that was recorded in this group of churches after the seismic events of October 1996 and May 2012, obtaining this data from post-earthquake surveys and information available in Italian databases. It is therefore appropriate to compare the damage caused by these earthquakes of similar magnitude in order to analyze the degree of effectiveness of the interventions carried out.
