Abstract:

In an era of increasing robotization, the role of autonomous machinery in shaping and driving manufacturing systems within the framework of Industry 4.0 and the emerging paradigm of Industry 5.0 has become ever more significant. Robotics is revolutionizing traditional industrial environments, enabling greater automation, efficiency, and adaptability. The objective of this thesis is to explore the impact of robotic automation on conventional manufacturing systems and to analyse the benefits associated with the integration of information systems and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs). Specifically, it examines how these advanced technologies contribute to optimizing operational efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and enhancing risk assessment strategies. As part of the research at G.E.I. S.p.A., a project was initiated with the aim of fostering technological advancements and guiding the company toward the Industry 5.0 framework. This initiative highlights the transition from Industry 4.0, which focuses on automation and smart manufacturing, to Industry 5.0, which emphasizes sustainability, human-centric approaches, and collaborative robotics. The findings of the project demonstrate that companies can successfully evolve by incorporating robotic automation systems while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and the well-being of their workforce. In conclusion, the study provides a comparative analysis of the advantages offered by Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0, illustrating how technological innovations can drive the industrial sector toward a more efficient, sustainable, and human-centred future.
