Abstract:

This report presents an overview of my master thesis experience about the conception and the prototyping of automotive external and internal opening commands. It begins with an introduction to the company and its field of activity, followed by a detailed description of the thesis’s objectives. The document then delves into the design and application of handles and sensors, including internal and external handles, capacitive sensors, piezoelectric sensors, and strain gauges, emphasizing their functioning, types, automotive applications, advantages, and disadvantages. Besides, the subsequent sections focus on specific projects, such as inner handle design, and the characterization of strain gauges through various valida- tion tests. Finally, the report explores the design and integration of a strain gauge into a trunk logo, as well as the reflection about a would-be UV-C handle discussing its advantages, drawbacks, and feasibility. This comprehensive overview high- lights the significance of handles and sensors in the automotive industry and the potential for innovative solutions.
