Tire model suitable for remote real time simulations on the cloud.

Abstract: |
The purpose of this thesis is to develop an external tire model for the VI-Grade software VI-CarRealTime, suitable for real-time simulation, and to run it on a professional dynamic driving simulator. The focus is on having the chance to run the tire model located on a different computer from the concurrent one. The external MF-Tyre model 5.2 has been developed in MATLAB/Simulink environment, and it provides the forces and moments calculation following the Pacejka formulas in longitudinal and lateral pure slip and combined slip, considering transient behaviour as well. This tire model has been validated, comparing its results to VI-TireTestrig ones. Then, a 14dof vehicle model has been created in order to reach some performance and safety parameters, and to be able to wear the tires the external model has been built with. So, a four-wheels validation has been performed comparing forces and moments coming from the external model and the VI-CarRealTime simulation. The external tire model has been connected to the simulation software via ethernet connection, both for receiving and sending data between the two models. First, this implementation has been used in offline simulation performing different manoeuvres. Once the results of offline simulation were satisfactory, the final goal of this thesis was to run the external model on the dynamic driving simulator and to base future works on simulation results and driver’s feedback. |
