Abstract:

Technology today plays a major role in the lives of all of us. Every day engineers work to exceed previous chips limits in performance, area occupation and power consumption expanding the quality of services that every day the most modern technologies make available to the user. In this thesis, the development of a complex chip for wireless charging is presented. The goal of the thesis work is to present all the steps from the "pen and paper" design to the actual production of the device. The experience in STMICROELECTRONICs has allowed me to know all aspects of this complicated process, where teams of people with different skills and goals work synergistically to achieve the ultimate goal of meeting the specifications required by the customer. Another strength of the company where the thesis work was done is that it is also able to follow the production of the chip on proprietary technologies at the forefront of the market. After an introduction that covers all the above points, in this thesis it will be firstly illustrated from a theoretical point of view an external software programming that can actively control the whole chip, which are the interfaces that are used and the dedicated lines for communication with the surrounding devices. Following, more details concerning the implementation of the above points in the device object of the thesis will be given: structures, problems and solutions will be presented respecting the secrecy constraints agreed with STMICROELECTRONICs. A final look at simulations, performances evaluation of the previous points and related critical analysis will conclude the thesis work in the final chapter.
