Abstract:

Most popular video conferencing applications we use nowadays lack of low enough latency and audio quality, because of compressed data. Dedicated software for music performances exists, but its setup is too complex for the vast majority of musicians. The goal of this project is to enable high quality uncompressed PCM music collaboration over the Internet with innovative browser technologies for scalable and efficient web applications. Multithread, shared memories and thread synchronization functionalities are supplied in modern browser APIs. Such functionalities can boost the overall system performance and thus allow to manage multiple users together mixing their music data. While at the moment browser implementations can not reach state of the art low latency for musical use, they offer important portability and usability properties which could extend the use of network music perfomance platforms to a wider user base.
