Component Lifing and Maintenance Program of an endurance race race.
Rel. Andrea Tonoli. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Automotive Engineering (Ingegneria Dell'Autoveicolo), 2021
Abstract: |
This work deals with the definition of a methodology used to set up a component lifing monitoring on race car. In order to provide the vehicle in every moment of is track side activities the design level of reliability, it is necessary that the prescribed maintenance strategy is fully respected: from this observation, the need of a precise and clear monitoring of component age and lifing status emerges. In this context, after an introduction regarding the project among which this work had been developed, a discussion regarding the most relevant and useful concepts from the reliability engineering theory is presented, together with the presentation of the predefined maintenance program. The core of the work is then dedicated to the methodology implemented to monitor the age of components installed on two identical cars along the course of a racing season, by means of the interface with a specific software used to create a hierarchical database from scratch. The logic used to create this database will be deeply analysed, finally an overview regarding additional benefit resulting from a precise life monitoring program is presented. The development of this work has been done during the curse of an internship in a company that designed and assembled two prototypes to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship in the Hypercar class. |
