Abstract: |
Given the unquestionable urgency of predictive and quantitative urban organization theory and sustainable development, this dissertation aims to identify the power-law relationship between CO2 emissions and city size in terms of population in the Netherlands. The multiple regression analysis was conducted with cross-sectional data with respect to the year 2018. The results indicated a significant association between population size, income per capita, and carbon dioxide emissions in the Netherlands. The analysis revealed a nearly linear scaling behavior, with a 1 percent increase in population size associated with a 1.03 percent increase in CO2 emissions. It is also observed that there is a negative relationship between income per capita and CO2 emissions. The results do not display neither economies nor diseconomies of scale concerning population size and CO2 emissions. |
