Abstract:

The following thesis work is developed during the curricular internship carried out in Turin Engine plant of FPT Industrial, one of the CNH Industrial brands. During the six months internship from October 2020 to March 2021, the target is to develop analysis and projects able to deal with the incoming audit of 2021 on behalf of Logistics department. The work wants to get on the one hand the best achievable results in terms of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) score while on the other hand an enhancement throughout innovative project proposal. For the above reasons, it is supported Giorgio Guadagni, the Logistics and Customer Services pillar, and its logistics team, through the activities necessary for the preparation, and then, the discussion of the audit. The thesis chapters retrace the path followed during the internship; indeed, it can be divided into two big temporal sections. In the first period, indicatively two months, as described in Chapter 3, it is developed the Logistics Cost Deployment (LCD), a tool able to individuate and quantify the losses as well as to recognize the associated root causes, thus it is indicated as the Step 0 of Logistics pillar activities. In the second period, after the LCD outcomes study, it is organized the strategy to attack the main logistics loss with a focused project and it is prepared the surrounding applications to show during the audit, as presented in Chapter 4. All the concepts described in this work belong to the so-called World Class Manufacturing methodology that will be deeply introduced in Chapter 1 along with roles and responsibilities of Logistics pillar and its team. In Chapter 2 it is described the company, the plant, and their approach to the WCM because it is fundamental to understand the manufacturing processes and the action perimeter behind the logistics activities. The Chapter 5, at last, discusses about the results of the experience and the possible future activities hypothesis. From the thesis, it is clear that WCM accomplished what it is intended to do, this means to challenge the companies and to involve every levels worker in the continuous improvement (kaizen) research to obtain the best outcomes and the highest performances.
