Driver state monitoring through physiologic and facial information - A case study in a virtual reality scenario.

The present study is carried on an experiment done in collaboration with i.Drive laboratory of Polytechnic of Milan. The test involves eleven people instructed to drive in road traffic with the driving simulator available at the lab. The simulated car was equipped with ADAS system capable of warn the driver of unwanted or dangerous situations (e.g. speed limit, safety distance). Each driver, after giving consent, had to wear several sensors capable of recording physiologic signal, moreover the cockpit was equipped with a camera (capturing both rgb and depth images) in order to record visual information about the user. The focus of the following study is to analyse the data recorded during experimental phase, and to investigate the possible existence of a correlation between physiological and visual data. In particulart the presence of an influence of ADAS activations on driver mental state, which is well described by his facial expression and physiologic signal. |
