Abstract: |
In recent years, Brugada syndrome has increasingly assumed greater importance in the clinical setting given the high number of young people between 30 and 40 years of age who have died due to it. The cause of this syndrome is not entirely clear, but is attributed either to a rapid inactivation of sodium channels (a congenital hereditary cause) or to the presence of a structural abnormality in the right ventricle with the presence of a replacement fibro-adipose tissue. By studying the electrical activity of the heart it is possible to determine the presence of the syndrome in the patient and also to define the stage in which it is present. The constantly evolving area therefore is not related to diagnosis, but related to therapy, in fact through various procedures such as ablation processes and pharmaceutical treatment attempts are made to improve the lives of patients and limit the effects of the syndrome. This syndrome presents specific patterns defined by an elevation of the ST segment and the beta angle within the ST segment itself. The purpose of this work is to quantitatively determine these parameters in order to provide support for the qualitative vision of doctors. In order to pursue this aim, an algorithm has been developed that automatically calculates the patterns by also exploiting the Wavelet transform for the treatment of patients' electrocardiographic signals. Finally, a quantitative comparison was made between the values determined on patients before and after therapeutic treatment, so as to provide support for the medical decision. |
