Abstract:

Virtual Model of Vehicle Adaptive Damping Systems - University of Windsor DIMD Program Several FCA vehicles are fitted with semi-active damper systems that modulate the level of damping implemented in the vehicle suspension system to improve the handling and ride quality felt by the vehicles occupants. Presently, the incorporation of these systems in virtual durability simulations is impractical. The goal of this project is to improve the fidelity of durability simulations. The first phase involves the investigation of several semi-active suspension control algorithms. Using a full car model developed in Simulink, a control algorithm is chosen that adequately replicates the operating characteristics of supplier systems. The second phase uses a process known as Co-Simulation to integrate the the developed controller in Simulink with durability simulation software used at FCA, including ADAMS and Abaqus. Accuracy of the controller is then to be validated with measured road test data.
