Abstract: |
This thesis is a part of Memory Regeneration research program, supported by Compagnia di San Paolo, collaborated with Tsinghua University, which aims at a thorough investigation on the state of international practices on urban regeneration, comparing China with Europe. Unlike organic emerge of creative industrial zone in the western cities, Beijing’s cultural creative clusters are mostly been developed by real estate developers and industrial enterprise. Since the import of experience of regeneration of industrial heritages from European cities, the academic scholars and government have been making effort to achieve urban regeneration and infrastructure through the reuse of industrial site. In this thesis I try to examine the basis, development process and the designer's influence on these official regeneration projects. The thesis is based on a 3-month investigation field work in Beijing in a wide ranged study of general information regarding a set of industrial danwei example. In this thesis, I will focus on one aspect - the actors and classification - in order to provide background information of post-industrial regeneration in Beijing from a more architectural point of view. |
