Abstract:

The analysis presented here investigates electromagnetic scattering by dielectric spheres using a combination of the Geometrical Optics Approximation (GOA) and the Debye–Mie series solution. A MATLAB-based simulation was implemented to reproduce the model originally proposed by van de Hulst and later extended by Duan in his PhD dissertation. The results highlight the strengths and limitations of the GOA compared to the exact full-wave Mie-Debye solution, providing a clear understanding of the range of validity of asymptotic approximations and their potential application at S-Band frequencies.
