Abstract
VILLA ADRIANA. ARCHITETTURE D'ACQUA E PAESAGGIO ARCHEOLOGICO - IL PROGETTO DI MUSEALIZZAZIONE, ACCESSIBILITA', VALORIZZAZIONE E COMUNICAZIONE DELLE AREE ARCHEOLOGICHE This thesis investigates the architectural and conceptual legacy of Hadrian’s Villa as a spatial projection of the emperor’s identity, memory, and empire. It proposes a four-part analysis: (1) a reconstruction of Hadrian’s life through his travels and imperial policies; (2) a phased reading of the villa’s construction in relation to political, cultural, and personal events; (3) a critical examination of its water systems, both ancient and restored, alongside comparative analyses of contemporary architectural interventions; and (4) a set of design proposals—including a bathing pavilion and a museum—intended to enhance the site’s accessibility, interpretive potential, and public engagement.
Rather than reconstructing historical fragments, the design responses follow Hadrian’s own method: abstraction, transformation, and spatial evocation.
