Abstract:

This thesis explores how preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, combined with effective jam management, contribute to improving system availability within a highly automated logistics environment. The study focuses on Amazon’s PSR2 Fulfillment Centre, highlighting the critical role of the Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (RME) team in supporting operational continuity and efficiency. Through a detailed analysis of the different types of maintenance, both proactive and reactive, this research examines how World Class Manufacturing principles and data-driven decision-making are applied to optimize maintenance planning and execution. In particular, the thesis leverages FMECA (Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis) and the RPN (Risk Priority Number) to assess whether the current maintenance strategy is effectively aligned with operational needs. Then will be show how maintenance and jam reduction aim to increase availability of the wharehouse as KPI and how maintenance is a long term investment. Then, a conclusion on the overall experience will be a persona overview of lessons learned.
