Abstract:

The continuous advancement in mobility solutions leads to the development of innovative materials and structures to enhance passenger safety. In the automotive industry, particularly in lightweight mobility vehicles, impact absorption mechanisms are of increasing importance. This thesis explores the properties of auxetic materials, which allow for higher energy absorption compared to conventional materials. The research investigates the possibility of studying the mechanical properties of these structures via a model order reduction (MOR) method to allow for computationally cheaper simulations, and includes an experimental campaign on auxetic structures used as body protectors for motorcyclist to validate the defined models.
