On-board Payment Solution For Android Automotive.
Rel. Edoardo Patti. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Ingegneria Informatica (Computer Engineering), 2024
Abstract: |
This thesis explores the development of an on-board payment solution tailored for Android Automotive, created in collaboration with Concept Engineering Reply, aiming to implement a robust application with full business logic to support secure and seamless in-car transactions. As vehicles continue to evolve from mere transportation devices into sophisticated, connected systems, the demand for integrated, driver-centric services has increased. Modern vehicles now play a central role in enhancing driving experiences by assisting with tasks such as locating parking, paying tolls, and refueling or recharging. Research suggests that drivers prefer making payments for automotive-related tasks, such as fuel or tolls, directly from their vehicles, underscoring the need for integrated payment solutions in connected cars. This project addresses this need by developing an Android Automotive application that allows users to recharge or refuel their vehicles, retrieving real-time data to display supported energy types, current energy levels, and energy capacities, thus equipping users with essential information for informed refueling or recharging decisions. The thesis explores various solutions for enabling payments within vehicles, including the integration of Google Pay APIs, providing an in-depth analysis of the technical architecture and user interface design, along with challenges encountered in simulating a realistic fueling or charging experience within Android Automotive. This work highlights the potential of implementing secure, efficient payment solutions that enrich the user experience and transform the way drivers interact with their vehicles. |
