Abstract:

Our world has undergone dramatic changes in recent years, driven by climate change, the pandemic, and other social factors. These changes necessitate adjusting our way of living to a “new normal” and designing living environments capable of adapting to foreseeable challenges while mitigating negative global trends. This research aimed to investigate the applicability of climatic analysis and the urban metabolism model in the architectural design process. The project focused on Coen- en Vlothaven, a site in the Netherlands capital of Amsterdam that is currently an active shipyard and heavy industrial zone. Due to ongoing activities, the area's infrastructure and environment lag behind its potential. To create a new city district with mixed uses of housing, businesses, and permanent activities in line with the vision of The Municipality of Amsterdam and Port Authority, this project was carried out to assess the feasibility of that transformation. With guidance from experts in environmental technology, urban planning, architecture, along my own work experiences in Amsterdam, we aim for this study to offer valuable analyses and solutions, as well as to illustrate a potential future for Coen- en Vlothaven.
