Abstract:

Following the COP21 Paris agreement the European Commission implemented the Green Deal plan aiming to achieve the full decarbonization of all activities by year 2050. The road transport sector represents around 20% of current EU CO2 emissions and to support the decarbonization policies the EUCOM set a target to achieve zero tailpipe emission on new light duty vehicles by year 2035. This study shows that the taken measures could not be sufficient to achieve the Green Deal target and assesses the potential of regulatory and technological alternative solutions to secure the EUCOM targets.
