Manufacturing Processes of Dynamic Seals: From production to customer delivery.
Rel. Paolo Minetola. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Automotive Engineering (Ingegneria Dell'Autoveicolo), 2024
Abstract: |
This thesis delves into the intricate world of automotive component production, with a specific focus on the production processes leading to the formation of dynamic seals, crucial for preventing oil leakage in engine crankshafts and transmissions. Leveraging the author's internship experience at Federal-Mogul Tenneco Powertrain Spa, a division of the renowned Federal-Mogul company, the study provides invaluable insight into the diverse array of processes involved in manufacturing essential automotive components such as gaskets, heat shields, and dynamic seals. Through a detailed examination of injection and injection compression processes of rubber for dynamic seal production, the thesis highlights the meticulous attention to detail and precision required to meet customer requirements and ensure product integrity. The study underscores the significance of organizing and standardizing internal processes effectively to enhance efficiency and pave the way for potential innovations in the automotive manufacturing industry. By tracing the steps involved in rubber molding, including compression, transfer, injection, and their variants, the thesis emphasizes the evolution and refinement of techniques aimed at enhancing efficiency and safety in production processes. Vulcanization, as a critical step in rubber molding, is highlighted for its pivotal role in ensuring optimal product quality through precise control of pressure and temperature. The findings and insights presented in this thesis may serve as a valuable resource for automotive manufacturers and industry stakeholders seeking to optimize production processes, enhance product quality, and drive innovation in the ever-evolving automotive manufacturing landscape. As technology advances and consumer demands evolve, a continued focus on process optimization, standardization, and innovation will be essential for maintaining competitiveness and driving sustainable growth in the automotive industry. |
