Abstract: |
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is crucial in civil engineering to ensure infrastructure safety and longevity. This project develops an SHM system to monitor the vibrational characteristics of a bridge using four sensor nodes and a central server. Each node, equipped with an Adafruit Feather ESP8266 board, RTC module, microSD card reader, and ADXL355 accelerometer, collects and stores vibration data. The central server, an Adafruit Huzzah Feather board connected to a PC via USB, interfaces with a LabVIEW program, providing a GUI for system control. The system operates in two modes: real-time monitoring and periodic acquisition. In real-time mode, vibration data from any single node is viewed via UDP communication. In periodic acquisition mode, nodes record data for a specified duration, store it on microSD cards, and transfer it to the server via FTP protocol. The server then downloads this data to the PC. Additionally, the system synchronizes the clocks of all nodes and the server with the PC to ensure accurate data acquisition. This project integrates embedded systems, wireless communication, and data acquisition techniques to create a robust SHM system, providing a practical solution for real-world civil engineering applications. |
