Abstract:

The thesis introduces innovative approaches to energy and thermal management in Formula-E cars through the application of optimal control principles. By employing optimal control methods, the aim is to minimize net energy consumption, factoring in efficiency gains from regenerative braking, to achieve minimal lap time, a critical aspect for competitive race strategies in Formula E competitions. A thermal battery model is incorporated to incorporate real-world thermal limitations into the energy management strategy, reflecting the constraints encountered during races. The impact of these energy and thermal restrictions on the proposed strategy is then analyzed, alongside the introduction of two distinct pedal lifting techniques. The study focuses on the third-generation Formula-E cars.
