Abstract:

Increasing urbanization, in the current years, has caused many problems for Iranian cities. This thesis investigates the current situation of cities in Iran, especially Isfahan city, from the point of view of sustainability and ecological factors. Moreover, it explains what actions, policies, and planning Iran (in the cities and in the case study of Isfahan city)has done on this topic. Additionally, in this paper, it was presented the suggestions for making an eco-district in Isfahan according to Gaffron classification of eco-cities. Increasing the population leads to the enhancement of fossil fuel energy consumption, and this causes climate change in Iran. According to this phenomenon, Iran started to create a Sustainable Development committee in 1993 in order to make the cities more sustainable. The city of Isfahan, an important city of Iran, the third populated city, needs the attention of policymakers to be relieved and gain its sustainability which is lost in the current century, While in the recent action of Isfahan municipality, this city joined the network of smart sustainable cities. For saying more on this topic, the situation of this city was examined in 4 important sustainability issues(land use, water, energy, and mobility), and for making one of its districts more ecological, some suggestions were analyzed and expressed. The actions were explained about the environment, city structure(green spaces, the architecture of the houses, and mixed land use), mobility, material and energy, and economic and social issues according to Gaffron classification of eco-cities.
