Rel. Andrea Bottino. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Ingegneria Informatica (Computer Engineering), 2023
Abstract: |
This thesis work, conducted at SynArea Consultants S.R.L., examines the potential applications of the Metaverse in the field of rehabilitation, with a specific focus on individuals affected by neurodegenerative syndromes and their physical and cognitive stimulation. The Meta Quest 2 VR headset is chosen for accessing the virtual world due to its favorable technical features and cost-effectiveness, especially considering its potential extension to a home-based setting. Furthermore, the recent software updates to the hand-tracking features of this device align well with our objectives removing the need for controllers. A home-like environment is selected to mitigate potential anxiety in users unfamiliar with the surroundings. The incorporation of gamification is aimed at engaging patients. Various communication channels are utilized for activity descriptions and feedback to ensure the inclusivity and accessibility of the app. Usability testing on healthy individuals yielded positive results. |
