The role of the PMO in the change management of an IT company

The PMO is a function responsible for creating a solid structure for the development of the organization. It is the main actor for the coordination and optimization of the activities related to a change management process. This study aimed to analyse the role of the PMO during a change management process, identifying the benefits and the difficulties encountered during the development of this project. The thesis starts with an overview of who is the PMO, which is its role and what are the main challenges that it will face; It will then go into the planning and organisation of a company, focusing on the importance of using project management techniques to efficiently develop a project. Then, it will be analysed the process of change management and the difficulties that a company may encounter during a radical change of mentality and models built up to that moment. In addition, the most successful models in this field will be examined through a study of the literature. Finally, it will be brought in a case study of a company undergoing a change management process; specifically, a pilot project for the use of project management best practices will be shown and it will be analysed the response of the personnel to this change in work management. The work elaborates the team performances during the project and proposes an evaluation of project management effectiveness through an interview to the team.
