Abstract:

This thesis investigated the fluid dynamics of a cooling hole through Stress-Blended Eddy Simulation (SBES). Results are analysed to establish the capability of SBES to correctly simulate main flow/coolant interaction features, thus highlighting fluctuation modes and detecting the vortical structures. That objective is reached by comparing the obtained results with experimental data and data obtained from previously performed studies. Special attention is paid to the evaluation of the compromise between the simulation runtime and the accuracy of the results, which is useful in particular in a business environment.
