Abstract:

The technological progress we have experienced and are still experiencing has led to the development of various approaches and methodologies in all scientific fields. These include the tendency to convert an object of our daily life into a smart element through its connection to the network. The branch of science that deals with this approach is the one commonly known as Internet of Things, currently one of the fastest-growing sectors. This study focuses on the vehicle, an object used in most people's everyday lives. The purpose of this dissertation work is to demonstrate the ability to carry out full-time monitoring of the vehicle's state using the C++ language and relying mainly on two entities: a microcontroller and the Microsoft Azure cloud, supported by the Azure IoT SDK C. The communication implemented will only be one-sided, from the car to the cloud. Using only these two elements does not allow the realization of the entire application; it will take software programs, protocols, and formats to reach its scope. All the tools used will be examined and explained in the various chapters. In the first chapter, I will present the two environments that are interconnected: the internal network of the machine and the environment in which it is present. Instead, In the second chapter, I specify in detail those tools that were necessary for the realization of the source code. Starting with physical elements, moving through communication protocols and message formats to support tools, like programming languages and software. Finally, in the third chapter, the development process is described by incorporating elements from the previous chapters.
