Abstract: |
Digital Image Correlation (DIC) is a recently developed technique, which allows full-field measurements of displacements and deformations in a non-invasive way. In this work an overview of the increasingly widespread use the DIC technique was performed, specifically investigating biomechanical applications in dental field. Advantages, disadvantages, and limits of the Digital Image Correlation were studied by comparing it both to traditional stress-strains measurements methods, such as strain gauges measurements and photoelasticity, and to methods which use a numerical approach, such as finite element analysis. In summary, in the light of what emerged from this review, it was possible to discuss about room for improvement of the DIC technique in biomedical field, focusing on key aspect to analyze in order to overcome the limit present so far. |
