Abstract: |
The work of this thesis starts from the experience of a 3-month curricular internship as Project Manager at Sea Vision SRL, a SoftwareHouse in Pavia, Italy, which operates in the field of vision for drug quality control and cosmetics that it offers to OEMs and pharmaceutical industries. The company, with the passing of time has expanded its business area including also solutions for the serialization of the drug and also packages for Pharma 4.0 industry, i.e. complete packages to be integrated into the production system based on concepts of machine learning and AI to get all the useful information in real time. Sea Vision SRL is a company made up of young people with an extremely innovative culture: since its foundation in 1995, it has grown strongly and is now present on practically all continents, but always in a sustainable manner. Based on the concepts of Project Management and Portfolio Management, the thesis contains an analysis of the current company structure and its potential growth in the near future with the following objective: Is Sea Vision currently able to guarantee sustainable growth despite a marked increase in its size and external factors? In order to answer this question, the work was divided into three chapters structured as follows: Chapter 1 introduces the key concepts of Project Management, Programme Management and Portfolio Management. It then outlines the principles of traditional and Agile project management focusing on a comparison between the two approaches. Chapter 2 is a literature review of the adoption of Agile Project Management approaches in the SoftwareHouse industry and then how Agile frameworks affect Portfolio Management. It then goes on to analyse the pros and cons of different Agile project management frameworks. Chapter 3 is the analysis chapter. The chapter introduces the company and describes in detail its core businesses, growth steps, and working methodologies. Then I try to put myself in the shoes of an external consultant to analyse the company practices. After making a projection of the number of employees and the number of orders in the next 5 years, the thesis analyses the key success factors of the company and identifies possible critical issues for the future. The analysis concludes by stating that Sea Vision, due to its solid structure and well-defined culture will be able to continue its sustainable growth in the market despite an increase in demand and considerable size, but at the same time provides two concrete proposals to strengthen its business processes: a template to make the management of the order portfolio more effective and the transition to a structured shared Agile approach in order to reinforce its business processes. |
