Abstract:

In the first section, the design of the new machining cell which is the first part of the thesis will establish the family part definition, where PQ analysis is performed, identify the process matrix and define the part numbers suitable to be manufactured and group them into families. After that, measuring the process, via different tools, which are the spaghetti chart to map movements, process at a glance which helps to understand the process and time observation registration. Then the whole process analysis, by calculating the takt time, draw the operator bar chart, making the capacity analysis, and filling the operator load chart to understand the process stability and efficiency. Once the process is analyzed, the improvement is implemented by eliminating the waste, line balancing, optimize the operator. When it’s almost done finally last step is implemented, which is keeping the process under control, it’s simply done by implementing the Standard Work Combination Sheet (SWCS) and making it available, to use it as best practice. In the second section, efficiency management, the discussion of important KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) is performed, which are used to evaluate the performance of individual supervisors, and the whole plant, which are efficiency, utilization of resources (UOR) and productivity, because the need is to understand the KPI’s in order to improve it, then explaining the interaction of different management systems (ERP systems) and what is the process of data exchange, and how the performance can improve, being focalized on them. The third and most interesting part is developing a business plan, where the scope is to improve the above mentioned KPI’s, by calculating for a specific machine the average tool life inside, also by implementing a real management organizational operational model change, in a specific organization which is pre-setting and tool warehouse, which will change drastically the way warehouse is managed.
