Abstract:

It is currently possible to detect a continuous and alarming increase in primary energy consumption through the analysis of historical data and future perspectives. In this context, the European Union launches the SCORE project “Supporting Consumer co-Ownership in Renewable Energies”, within the scope of the Horizon 2020 program. This project focuses in overcoming the usage of fossil fuel energy in favour of renewable energy sources (RES), through the creation of “Energy Communities”. The term “Energy Communities” denotes a project carried out by citizens, which autonomously organized themselves in order to construct a new energy structure that aggregate producers and consumers in matter of energy, creating “Prosumers”. The project provided for the realization of three practical case studies; in Italy, Poland and Czech Republic, also with the support of teams from Germany and Bulgaria. In the earliest phases of SCORE project, different cases studies were identified and described in Susa Valley, the Italian pilot. The main goal of the present study is to analyse the feasibility of different energy retrofit alternatives that will better apply on each selected case study. This will be made through a Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA), assessing key performance indicators (KPIs) from technical, economic, environmental and social points of view. During this study, two articles were written, “Supporting Consumer Co-Ownership in Renewable Energies: SCORE H2020 project” presented in SBE Malta and “Mainstreaming energy communities in the transition to a low-carbon future: a methodological approach” for Energies Journal.
