Abstract:

Nowadays we need to be aware of the fact that today's architecture occupies two equally important spaces: the material/geographical space and the digital/media space. Moreover, it has to be taken into account how the type of users has changed radically: new users know how to relate very well to the media and are also much more aware of the quality of the built environment. This process led to an increasing interest in architecture that produced a phenomenon called architectural tourism, whose exponentially growing field of influence could announce the beginning of a direct dialogue between the users and the architectural object. The main aim of the thesis is to seek the role and the opportunity of the designer by responding to the challenge imposed and driven by the model of the Sharing Economy, that is invading and surpassing the traditional one. In particular, the subject of this study is one of the most famous platforms within this system, Airbnb, of which both the positive and the negative sides are taken into account. After focusing on the situation of the Danish landscape and specifically of the capital Copenhagen, an attempt was made to design a resilient building that could respond not only to the rising water problem, but also to the expansion policies of the city, seeking a dialogue with one of Bjarke Ingels projects within the Danish landscape. Everything ends with two opposite and futuristic suggestions that unfold into two questions: "What would happen if Sharing Economy became the only type of economy?" and "What would happen, instead, if Sharing Economy were banned within the city?". These suggestions have given the opportunity to reflect on two different scenarios called respectively "Sharing City" and "No Sharing City", taking into account the positive and the negative sides of the choices made in the design field.
