Abstract:

Based in the current increment of the popularity of Indoor Positioning system (IPS) it has being designed and implemented a Wireless sensor network (WSN) in the Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB), based on the impulse radio Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, given its high localization accuracy, low power consumption and los cost of implementation, all of this thanks to the fact that it supports higher data rates, extended range, it is robust against interference and It has centimeter accuracy about its ranging measurements of localization. This was implemented in a Real Time Locating System (RTLS) for a single area unit in the offices of the Pervasive Technologies area of the company. This thesis will start from this existing and perfectly working localization system, and will continue using its technology for the localization task, but with the aim of enlarge the operation field of the network, by means of creating more unit areas that will be part of one same system, thing that before the develop of this thesis was not implemented at all in the company. This will be done by means of creating a central location engine (CLE) that will manage the data information and parameters of each of the unit areas, as well as taking decisions on how to assign parameters to the mobile units to be localized inside the system, with the help of location engines that will be placed in each of the area units. These last ones will transmit through a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connection all the information needed by the mobile nodes to be able to carry on with the localization task.
