Abstract:

Presentation of actual global water situation and the increasing demand of water in particularly in defined areas of the World. Description of technologies utilized to produce fresh – water for human use and their utilization and introduction of foot – print concept in order to understand how water is used for the production and consumption choices. An area with an high need of water compared to existing resources is the North – Africa. To understand better the water needs in Northern – Africa countries (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia) it was made an analysis on their past and actual water uses, in particular for their typical local crops. The analysis is articulated in: a geographical, climatic, economical and demographic description of these countries; a quantity definition of natural water resource available; calculations on amount of water used for main crops in each country. During all analysis were collected data from FAO, AQUASTAT and UNITED NATIONS database. Second part of the analysis is composed by the forecast on the future water needs for main crops in each country in Northern – Africa countries in an interval time from 2017 to 2030 with the CAGR method. Study by Trnsys on the specific climatic and meteorological characteristics of selected cities in each of the Northern - Africa countries. On the basis of the all results it has been obtained a technical feasibility of an atmospheric water harvesting technology to install in Northern – Africa countries.
