Abstract:

WiB (Wideband reuse-1) is a new system concept proposed for DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television), where potentially all frequency channels within the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band allocated to broadcast services, are used on all transmitter sites of the network and therefore, having a frequency reuse-1 instead of conventional frequency reuse 5-7 approaches. Frequency reuse-1 implies having interference from neighboring transmitters, which can be handled by interference cancellation techniques together with robust transmission modes, in such a way that WiB benefits can be exploited. By efficiently managing the co-channel interference, WiB could provide an improved utilization of the frequency spectrum and considerable power savings, leading to a capacity increase for the same coverage compared with current DTT systems. This thesis work focused on the physical layer performance of the DVB-T2 (Digital Video Broadcasting-Second Generation Terrestrial standard) transmission chain, by investigating and evaluating some of the most promising interference cancellation techniques. To this end, MATLAB algorithms were developed in order to analyze the system performance in terms of BER (Bit Error Rate).
