Towards an nZEB: 110% intervention.

Abstract:

Without a doubt, human activity contributes to the present warming trend in the air, seas, and soil. Since 1750, the concentration of greenhouse gases has been steadily rising, mostly because of the burning of fossil fuels, with carbon dioxide (CO2) reaching recent annual average concentrations of 410 ppm. Due to this, governments all over the globe have started on a path to reduce damaging emissions brought on by using fossil fuels ever since the Kyoto Protocol in 1997. A few years later, with the Paris Agreement, they established the targets of maintaining the temperature rise, so far, below 2°C compared to preindustrial levels, increasing the adoption of renewable energy sources, and improving the energy efficiency of processes and technology. The European Climate Law, which came into force on July 29, 2021, also established the intermediate goal of lowering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 55% by referring to levels in 1990 and zero net emissions by 2050. To achieve all the sustainable goals set owing to population growth, rising living standards, and urbanization, new technology must be used, and renewable energy sources must be adopted in areas like industry, transportation, and buildings. 40% of the power consumed and 36% of the Carbon dioxide emission in the EU are attributed to the building industry. Seventy-five percent of the structures are energy inefficient, and one-third are older than fifty years. To lower the energy demand, buildings are being retrofitted with insulation material and more energy-efficient systems like heat pumps or condensing boilers. Italy has implemented many financial incentives to aid in the efficient requalification of building and to aid local businesses and residents in coping with the economic crisis. Included in this is the "Superbonus 110%". The objective of this study is the energy restoration of a sixty’s condominium in the region of Turin, Via Tiraboschi 13-15, because of the approval of this tax incentive. In this case study, and after analysing and practicing over it the different 110% interventions, a two-class energy jump was achieved, going from a current energy class of G (340.3487 kWh/m2 anno) , and attending with the interventions class C (103.6112 kWh/m2 anno). The interventions cost was also analyzed with projected savings of the interventions that helped lower the bills of 13804.75 euros in just one year.
