Abstract:

The purpose of this work is to study the demand side management applied to the energy center building of the Polytechnic of Turin. considering the current energy transition. The energy center represents an interesting building as it is a building that manages a very high energy demand, both from an electrical and thermal point of view. The characteristic of this place is that its production is entirely connected to electricity, as it is not only used for electrical purposes but also for thermal services as most of its thermal energy demand comes from a heat pump (powered by electricity) and from the cogeneration of methane thermoelectric plants in the area, which in turn have a close relationship with the electricity produced. A important part of the work is based on the necessary to ask the question whether in the medium-term future. The question it is if the methane power plants will also be replaced by renewable sources, as has happened for coal-fired ones; therefore, from the consumer's point of view it is necessary to know if the future will have the same supply availability that we have now and therefore what the future supply curve could be and how it will be possible from the demand point of view to adapt in the best way to have a energy saving and therefore economic. Already in 2018 a document was published by Terna that hypothesized the future energy diversification of Italy and Europe. Starting from this document and from the hourly production of the national electricity balance provided by Terna, it was possible to hypothesize the hourly supply of the national energy balance for 2030 and 2040. From this starting point the scenarios for Demand Side Management begin to optimize the use of energy and therefore save money, energy and consequently lower the production of greenhouse gases. In the future, therefore, it will be assessed whether the heat produced by the thermoelectric power plants in the province of Turin will actually be able to satisfy the demand for thermal energy also in the future when even modern methane power plants could be superfluous.
