Abstract:

Aluminum foams as cores in casting : Motive of the thesis is to reduce the weight of engineering components which can be found in many application levels; Automotive, aerospace, civil engineering and others. lightweight components can be produced by considering the aluminum foam as the core in conventional casting techniques. Use of aluminum foam as core is an interesting topic of research and development as it reduces weight of the component significantly. The idea is facing many challenges that needs to be overcome. better bonding, good mechanical properties are the important things which this thesis tries to characterize and improve.
